Your fav part of these emails! Pensamientos espirituales

If any of you know me you know im stubborn (I know i just stated the obvious but bare with me).

And because of this God sometimes has to keep teaching me the same lesson multiple times before it sticks.

So back to the day of my exchange with hermana Ellison. We were both a bit nervous because both of us are still pretty new to the mission and have relied a ton on our companions spanish up until now. But the day was going fantastic! We laughed and danced and sang and practiced our spanish and we found a fair amount of people to start teaching! We had some lessons that night and we were fairly confident we could get by and planned out what we were gonna teach and say beforehand. Well we get to our lesson with someone who is just starting to take the lessons and doesnt know much about religion at all. and the man walks in and asks us "so what is it that makes your church different. Why is it different than other churches?" Hermana Ellison and i just looked at eachother and silently agreed that our original plan would be thrown out the window and we needed to teach Him about the Restoration.

We struggled through the lesson with our combined broken spanish and luckily our fellowship was bomb and helped a ton. We were kind of all over the place and I think he kinda just internally laughed at us the whole time but we did it! And we felt the spirit strong!

This moment just stood out to me because sometimes i think missionaries talk about experiences where they went into a lesson and through God they were just able to speak fluently somehow or miraculously understand everything (and thats amazing!)

But that definitely did not happen in this lesson. We struggled through that whole lesson and it was at times choppy and earned us a couple laughs from the man. But thats okay! We didnt need to speak fluently for the spirit to still be felt and for him to understand the love we and God have for him. It was just a cool moment for us to see that God is helping us, just not always in the ways we think He will.

A friend once reminded me "the reason my parents joined the church wasnt because the missionaries were the best spanish speaking missionaries to ever walk the face of the earth. In fact my dad told me at times he could barely understand them. He joined because of how he felt when he felt the spirit with them."

Quotes!
◇ "No matter how serious the trial, how deep the distress, how great the affliction, [God] will never desert us. He never has, and He never will. He cannot do it. It is not His character [to do so]. … He will [always] stand by us. We may pass through the fiery furnace; we may pass through deep waters; but we shall not be consumed nor overwhelmed. We shall emerge from all these trials and difficulties the better and purer for them.” - george q canon

◇ God finds you a lot more worthy than you find yourself

◇ It is unfair. Life is going to have ups and downs that are out of our control. Thats part of the plan. But that doesnt mean that Gods not there and it doesnt mean He's not listening. It just means we have to have a little more trust and hang in there little longer that it will all work out
